• Death

Carlo developed an inflammation of the throat, which was diagnosed as a type of blood cancer. His condition worsened and he fell into a coma and underwent a blood-cleansing treatment. After a few days, he was pronounced brain-dead on October 11, 2006. Carlo passed away on October 12, 2006, at 6:45 p.m. at the age of 15.

  • Burial

Carlo’s parents brought his body home, where people came to pay their last respects for four days. A crowd of strangers attended his funeral, including young people who had abandoned the Church. Carlo was buried in the Santa Maria Maggiore church in Assisi, Italy, a place he loved due to its connection to St. Francis of Assisi.

  • Beatification

The call for Carlo's beatification began soon after his death. He was named a Servant of God in 2013, declared Venerable in 2018, and beatified on October 10, 2020, by Cardinal Agostino Vallini, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, on behalf of Pope Francis.

  • Canonization

Carlo Acutis' canonization is set to take place on September 7, 2025 by Pope Leo XIV. Initially, Carlo's canonization was scheduled for April 27, 2025, during the Jubilee of Teenagers, but it was postponed due to Pope Francis' passing. Pope Leo XIV has now confirmed the new date, making Carlo Acutis the first millennial saint.

  • Patronage

Carlo is the patron saint of youth and computer programmers, and his feast day is celebrated on October 12. Carlo's legacy continues to inspire countless individuals, particularly young people and computer programmers.
